Ozil congratulates Gotze on Bayern move

The Real Madrid midfielder admitted he is pleased for his fellow countryman after his transfer was confirmed while he wants the Blancos to finally reach the Champions League final

Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has congratulated his international team-mate Mario Gotze on his move to Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund.

Ozil, who himself has been linked with the Bundesliga giants in the past, will line up against Gotze when the two sides play in their Champions League semi-final and he admitted he had no idea the transfer was going ahead.

“Of course I did not know,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “But I am happy for him because he is a good friend and a great footballer.”

The Blancos have not apppeared in European football’s showpiece event since they triumphed in the competition in 2002 and Ozil hopes the team can break their recent bad luck this campaign.

“I have been with Real Madrid for three years now and it is the third time we are in the semi-finals,” he added. “Now we finally want to reach the final.”

The Germany international has netted four times in his last three matches, including twice against Betis on Saturday, and he is hoping he can continue his good form against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

He added: “I am happy that I am scoring at the moment. The team effort is important, but I am happy that I am scoring more lately.”
