Bartra: I want to stay at Barcelona

The centre-back has stressed that he is eager to stay at Camp Nou and is pleased with his performances so far this term

Marc Bartra has insisted that he has no intention of leaving Barcelona any time soon and is actually hoping to sign a new contract with the Blaugrana.

The defender’s current deal with the Liga champions is due to expire at the end of the season and a number of recent reports suggested he could leave Camp Nou in order to get regular first-team action elsewhere.

However, the 22-year-old has made it clear that he’s enjoying life in Catalunya and intends to stay put for the foreseeable future.

“I know that the club and my agent are speaking. This has been home for 12 years. I have given it everything and hope to be here for many more years,” Bartra said at a press conference.

“I am not losing sleep over my renewal, because the most important thing is to train and play well. I don’t think about what might happen.

“I’m very happy with the way things are going. I think it’s important to continue at this level. I’m happy with the confidence shown in me. Tata [Martino, Barca coach] has not doubted once about playing me.”

Bartra has made four official appearances for Barcelona so far this term due to Javier Mascherano and Carles Puyol’s injury problems, but he does not fear the competition for places once the pair are available again.

“We want them fit again as soon as possible,” he insisted. “The more we are, the more competition there is and the better we play.

“If we’re doing well now, I can’t imagine what kind of level we’ll be at when they come back.”
