The Partenopei have been linked with a January swoop for their former fan favourite as they look to fill the void left by Lorenzo Insigne’s long-term injury

Ezequiel Lavezzi’s agent says Napoli hold a place in the Paris Saint-Germain attacker’s heart in the midst of mounting speculation the Serie A side will make a January transfer move for the Argentine.

The 29-year-old swapped the San Paolo for Parc des Princes two and a half years ago in a move worth an estimated €26 million, but Lorenzo Insigne’s five-month injury absence has triggered reports in Italy that Rafa Benitez wanted to bring Lavezzi back to the Partenopei.

Instead of quelling or quashing the reports, Lavezzi’s representative Alejandro Mazzoni has refused to rule out a return to Napoli, where his client spent five seasons before joining the current Ligue 1 champions.

“Lavezzi had a couple of great years here – he won the title with PSG, he’s had good Champions League performances and was among the best players for Argentina as they reached the World Cup final this summer,” the agent told Radio Crc.

“Of course everyone knows Napoli and Serie A still have a place in his heart. He is an important player at PSG, but you can never say never in football.

“Surely talk about Ezequiel Napoli today is not simple though given that president Aurelio De Laurentiis also said that now Lavezzi is old.

“He has always said that it’s a real possibility he could return to Italy and his first choice would obviously be Napoli. We’ll see.”

When asked about the rumours of Lavezzi’s return to Napoli, coach Benitez responded: “He’s a fantastic guys and Napoli are still very fond of him …”

Napoli are third in Serie A heading into matchday 13 and visit fourth-placed Sampdoria on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00CET.
