Manchester United and Everton have been given a huge boost as contract talks between Jose Fonte and Southampton have broken down, according to The Mirror .

The Saints have offered to make the centre-back the highest-paid player at the club with a new deal worth £80,000 per week.

However, the Portugal international has so far refused to sign, with both Manchester United and Everton still keen on luring him away from the south coast.
