The France international has been frozen out at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp, but no talks have been held regarding a possible return to the Ligue 1 champions

Mamadou Sakho may be out of favour at Liverpool, but he is still held in high regard by Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The 26-year-old defender has been frozen out of the picture at Anfield after seeing his attitude questioned by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

RUMOURS: Galatasaray bid for Sakho

He is yet to make an appearance this season as a result and is now looking for a new challenge less than 18 months after committing to a five-year contract extension on Merseyside.

Those terms were intended to keep Sakho at Liverpool until the summer of 2020, but a move during the 2017 January transfer window is looking increasingly likely.

Galatasaray are the latest club to be linked with a move for the France international, while PSG have ruled themselves out of the running.

Al-Khelaifi admits to being a fan of a home-grown talent who emerged from the club’s academy system, but insists no discussions have been held regarding a possible return to the French capital for Sakho.

Why nobody wanted Draxler but PSG

He told Infosport+: “I love Mamadou Sakho as a player and as a person, too.

“But we have not spoken to him.”

PSG are looking to strengthen during the winter window, though, with a deal for Germany international Julian Draxler already completed.

Al-Khelaifi was reluctant to be drawn on the identity of future targets, but is expecting further movement over the coming weeks.

He added: “We want to try to move forward, to strengthen the team.

Draxler makes PSG debut

“We will talk with the coach and players and see if there is need to change things. We have until January 31 to decide whether to sell or lend some players but there is nothing officially recorded.”

Reigning champions PSG are currently sat third in the Ligue 1 table, three points behind Monaco and five adrift of leaders Nice.
