The Eagles boss has revealed the Uruguayan defender could join the club after the January transfer window ends on a free transfer

Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed his interest in signing former Juventus defender Martin Caceres.

Palace sign Van Aanholt

The Eagles boss is looking to make several additions to his squad before the end of the January transfer window as he aims to lead the club to Premier League survival.

Palace have brought in Jeffrey Schlupp and Patrick van Aanholt from Leicester City and Sunderland respectively this month, while Allardyce says he is looking to land two more players before the window ends.

One man who could move to Selhurst Park after the window slams shut is Caceres, who has been a free agent since his Juventus contract expired last summer.

“Caceres is one who may appear after the window as he’s not attached to a club,” Allardyce said on Monday. “Yes, I have an interest.”

Caceres, who had two loan spells at Juventus before eventually joining them permanently in 2012, won several honours in Turin including five Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia crowns.

The 29-year-old has also played for Barcelona and Sevilla in the past.

Palace, who are currently 18th in the Premier League, take on Bournemouth on Tuesday with Allardyce still looking for his maiden win as the club’s manager following his appointment in December.
