The Serb called time on a nine-year spell at Stamford Bridge in order to head to Russia, and his former captain praised his influence

John Terry has paid tribute to former Chelsea “legend” Branislav Ivanovic after the defender completed a move to Zenit on Wednesday.

The Serbia international moved on after being left surplus to requirements following Antonio Conte’s move to a three-man backline this season, with his contract entering its final six months.

Ivanovic made nearly 400 appearances for Chelsea since joining them from Lokomotiv Moscow, winning two Premier League crowns plus a Champions League and Europa League title.

And Terry hailed his former team-mate for his influence on the side over his nine years at Stamford Bridge, praising his impact on the field as well as in the dressing room.

“Absolutely gutted to see Brana leave Chelsea,” the Blues captain wrote on Instagram.
