Liverpool target Inaki Williams responds to transfer reports
The Athletic Bilbao forward has been heavily linked with a move and admits he will be honest with his current club if an appealing offer is tabled
Inaki s says he wants to remain at Athletic Bilbao beyond the current campaign, but suggested he could be swayed by an attractive offer from elsewhere as speculation increases.
The 22-year-old broke into the Basque side’s first-team in halfway through the 2014-15 season and has become a highly sought-after talent.
RUMOURS: Liverpool willing to meet s clause
Liverpool are reported to have been tracking the Spain international for some time, while Borussia Dortmund are said to see him as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, should their leading marksman move on.
s has made no secret of his desire to play at the highest possible level, with the Champions League considered to be a stage deserving of his talents.
He would welcome the opportunity to grace that competition with Bilbao, but they are seven points off the top four in La Liga at present and the talented forward says he will be open and honest with his current employers if an enticing bid is tabled over the summer.
“The first thing I would do is talk to the president,” s told Sportium.
Klopp: Liverpool a long-term project
“Lots of things are coming out in the news but I am calm. If [clubs] are looking at me it’s because I’m doing things well. I’m very lucky.
“If tomorrow I had to leave I would always be very honest with Athletic. They’ve given me everything.
“Staying put is my first option right now though.”
Hummels: Klopp struggle is a pity
s has a €50 million release clause in his contract and it will take a serious offer from one of his many admirers to tempt the Bilbao-born forward to leave his hometown team.
He added: “I love this club, my team-mates and the city. I’m happy in Bilbao. Same for my family.”
