Nainggolan signs new Roma contract to end Chelsea, Man Utd and Inter rumours
Despite being linked with Premier League and Serie A clubs, the Belgium midfielder has extended his stay in the Italian capital
Radja Nainggolan has signed a new contract which ties him to Roma until 2021, putting an end to speculation over his future.
Bet on Roma to win Serie A
The midfielder was touted as a potential signing for Serie A rivals Inter, as coach Luciano Spalletti said the Nerazzurri were working on a deal to sign him.
Nainggolan has also been heavily linked with a move to England, as Chelsea, who made an approach last summer, and Manchester United reportedly held an interest.
However, Roma president James Pallotta insisted a deal had been agreed when the club had talks with Nainggolan over a week ago and it has now been made official.
The 29-year-old had been contracted to the capital side until 2020, but will now spend an extra year there.
“I think I have demonstrated that this is what I always wanted,” Nainggolan told the club’s website.
“So I’m very happy, especially that the club and I can continue our adventure and move forward together.”
The Belgium international joined Roma in an initial loan deal from Cagliari in January 2014, making the move permanent in the following transfer window. A star player for the Stadio Olimpico outfit, he scored 11 goals in 37 league appearances last season and Pallotta was delighted to secure his future.

“We’re delighted Radja has committed his long-term future — and the most important years of his career — to the club,” he said.
“Last season, he was arguably one of the best midfielders in the world and it’s no surprise that he was linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
“But there was never any question of him going elsewhere — he loves Roma and we love having him here.”
