Pochettino: I think we’ve already seen the best of Walker
The Spurs boss believes in the full-back’s quality and has backed him to succeed in Manchester, but believes he got the best out of the 27-year-old
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino believes Kyle Walker will prove to be a success at new club Manchester City but claims the right-back’s best days are behind him.

The England defender completed his transfer to the Etihad Stadium in a deal which could fetch Spurs up to £50 million, making him the most expensive English full-back in history.
Walker ended an eight-year stay in north London to join Pep Guardiola in Manchester, and though Pochettino is sure he will succeed under the Catalan coach, he believes the deal was a good one for Spurs.
“He’s one of the best full-backs in England and Manchester City have paid a lot of money – £50 million – just like they have signed different players to try to get success in the future,” Pochettino said.
“But, for me, I think we have seen the best of Kyle with Tottenham.
“We helped him improve and learn. When you pay this type of amount for a player, it’s because he’s top and because you are at your best. Then it’s normal that he will succeed.
“It’s a big pressure because when you pay for some players, the pressure to perform as well in every game becomes greater.

“It will be different, the pressure, for him. But there is no doubt that he is a quality player, a talented player. And there is no doubt that he will succeed with Manchester City.”
City also completed a deal for Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy, a France international left-back, having released experienced full-back trio Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna at the end of last season.
