Gremio refute claims of €40m Arthur agreement with Barcelona

Reports of a €40million agreement between Gremio and Barcelona for midfielder Arthur are wide of the mark, according to the Brazilian club’s president Romildo Bolzan.

Barcelona’s interest in the 21-year-old midfielder is long-standing, having been linked with him regularly towards the end of 2017, when Arthur was a key part of the Gremio side which won the Copa Libertadores.

Arthur was photographed wearing the Catalan club’s jersey in a meeting with their sporting director Robert Fernandez in December.

Although that angered Gremio, they have been in regular dialogue with Barca ever since over a potential move, with reports in Spain claiming on Tuesday that an agreement had finally been made.

But Gremio insists such claims are purely speculation, with a deal still to be struck.

Speaking to Radio Bandeirantes, Bolzan said: “A deal has still not been finalised.

“There have been plenty of discussions, but at this stage the transfer cannot be considered a foregone conclusion.”

Jorginho could be sacrificed by Napoli, admits agent

Manchester United target Jorginho could leave Napoli in the summer, his agent has said.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move to the Old Trafford side in the summer, with the defensive midfielder touted as a replacement for veteran Michael Carrick.

Napoli may choose to cash in on the former Hellas Verona player in the summer and replace him with a younger option, and while he is keen to remain at the club, his agent has opened the door for a move.

“If a player like Torreira arrives from Sampdoria, then that will require an important investment and Jorginho could be sacrificed to make way,” Joao Santos admitted to Radio Crc.

“I think we’ll discuss a renewal at the end of the season, as it’s not the moment to talk about that, because he still has a long contract. He wants to stay, although we’ll have to see if Napoli agree with that.

“I think they’d rather sell Jorginho than Amadou Diawara, who is younger.”

Jorginho has played 27 times for Napoli this season, scoring four and fashioning as many more.

Icardi suits Inter better than Man Utd or Real Madrid – Spalletti

Inter boss Luciano Spalletti has advised Mauro Icardi to forget the interest in his services coming from elsewhere and to commit himself to the San Siro side.

Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, who has scored 18 goals so far this season in just 22 league appearances.

The coach joked: “The striped shirt is better on him than those that are solid colours.

“He is the type of character who can make a difference. He’s not someone who would like to make a move without making his mark on this team.”

Meanwhile, Spalletti was positive about Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan, who has been linked with a move to the Milan side.

“He’s a player suitable to play the football of any coach,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Spalletti also discussed a potential move for Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij, who confirmed he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

“Is he an ideal reinforcement? He could be the captain of my fantasy team,” Spalletti said.

After making a positive start to the season, Inter have faded in recent weeks and now lie fifth in the standings, one point behind Lazio.

Courtois unsure on Chelsea future amid Real Madrid links

Thibaut Courtois has revealed that he does not know if he will leave Chelsea this summer amid links with Real Madrid.

Goal understands that Real have prioritised the purchase of a goalkeeper in the next transfer window, with Courtois one of a number of targets, including Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Manchester United’s David De Gea.

Recent reports have suggested that Real believe Courtois will be easier to extract from the Blues than De Gea from United.

Courtois has previously claimed that his “heart is in Madrid”, but he now says that he was misunderstood, despite him having family in the Spanish capital.

“I’m not clear about my future, when I said that my heart is in Madrid, it was misunderstood, although I have two children in Spain, in Madrid, and that’s not easy,” he told COPE.

Courtois has one year remaining on his current contract and he maintains that he is in negotiations with the Blues over a possible extension to his current deal.

However, he accepts that Real president Florentino Perez may well call his agent to negotiate a possible transfer, and has refused to rule out a possible move.

“I have one year left and I’m happy and talking to Chelsea,” he added.

“They have bet on me from the first moment and that will not be forgotten, I do not think Florentino Perez will call me, he will call my agent and he will listen to him.”

Courtois played 90 minutes as Chelsea faced Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The Belgian was unable to keep a clean sheet, however, with Lionel Messi capitalising on a defensive mix-up between Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta to earn Barca a 1-1 draw after Willian’s excellent opener.

He added: “We could have won, but a defensive mistake cost us a goal, Barca had possession, but there was no danger, the biggest danger was ours.”
