Manchester United have been beaten to the race to steal the signature of Valencia left back Jordi Alba by La Liga giants Barcelona for a fee in the region of £10m.
Manchester United and Barcelona were both interested in signing the highly rated Spanish full-back, but it seems that the player could be finally heading to Camp Nou. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been looking for a replacement for the aging Patrice Evra and had set his sights on the 23 year old. With Everton demanding an astonishing £20m for their English left back Leighton Baines, the United boss turned his attention to Alba who is right now with the Spanish national team preparing for the Euros.
With Alba preferring to play his trade for Spain, United will have to accept defeat in landing the talented defender who creates a great threat every time he goes forward. This will pave the way for Everton to maintain their strong stance over their valuation of Baines though United are willing to cough up a maximum of £15m as they believe the 27 year old won’t have a resale value.
United have already signed Dortmund playmaker Shinji Kagawa and with Fergie keen on getting a left back for the squad, it remains to be seen what the manager does after having missed out on Alba.
the comming of alba is fine, but if thiago silva join too it great, modric i sugest to land.
