Chelsea are planning to sign Barcelona’s U 21 sensation Sergi Roberto this summer with an eye on the future.
It is believed that Chelsea have already made contact with the Catalan club for the player but the Spanish giants are apparently not interested in selling Roberto. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder who has managed just two appearances for the first team is expected to play a more important role under new coach Tito Vilanova.
Andre Villas Boas, former Chelsea manager, was keen on signing the talented midfielder back in December but any advances from the London club were spurned by Barcelona. But the European champions are once again preparing to bid for the midfielder and this time it could be too good to turn down for Barcelona. The Spaniard is valued at £6.5m and Chelsea are expected to fully meet the evaluation.
Barcelona are likely to let Roberto go with a buy back clause similar to that of Oriol Romeu, who has really impressed the officials at Chelsea in his first season there. Roman Abramovich has already spent close to £80m between their three signings; Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and his attempt of bringing Hulk.
