Chelsea have now turned to Polish defender Lukasz Piszcsek to fill in the vacancy left by the departing Jose Bosingwa after losing interest in Gregory Van der Wiel and facing tough competition for Mathieu Debuchy.
Chelsea continue their transfer activity in a desperate attempt to reshape an old and aging squad and are considering Piszcsek as an option for the right back slot. Bosingwa was released following their Champions league win and their Serbian defender Ivanovic is keen on playing in his more preferred central defensive role in the coming season. After a host of names have been linked, the Dortmund defender looks the most viable option for the Blues.
Poland coach Franciszek Smuda had earlier mentioned a possible deal involving the talented defender to Real Madrid although the club played it down. With reported interest from the Spanish champions, it is going to be interesting to see if Chelsea can compete with Madrid’s spending power. Their Russian owner has already shelled out £40m this summer over two players, Eden Hazard and Marko Marin and the possibility of a £40m deal involving Porto striker Hulk is still doing the rounds.
Will the Blues be able to prize away the 27 year old from Dortmund?
