French striker Olivier Giroud has expressed delight at the prospect of joining the Gunners as the Premier League club look to wrap up the deal in the next seven days.
The Montpellier forward had a scintillating season for the French side and helped them to their maiden Ligue 1 title under prominent coach Rene Girard. His goal scoring prowess attracted a lot of interest from across Europe but Arsenal have beaten the rest to the signature of the 25 year old.
The Gunner manager could have had to wait till the end of Euros to complete the £12m transfer of Giroud but with France’s Euro adventure cut short by Spain, the deal could very well be completed in the next week.
“I am so happy to be signing for Arsenal – it is something that represents so much for me,” Giroud is quoted as saying by the Sun.
“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and Arsenal are a great club with many French players.”
Olivier Giroud becomes the second signing for the Londoners after securing an early transfer for Germany star Lukas Podolski. Arsenal are also expected to press hard to secure the services of 21 year old Yann M’Vila this summer.
