Arsenal and City fail as Benfica snap Swede starlet

Arsenal and Manchester City have lost out in the race to Benfica to snap up Swedish U-17 captain Robert Mirosavic after the young star had successful trials at both clubs earlier this year.

The Helsinborg winger had gone on trial to the Emirates in January this year and managed to impress Arsene Wenger. But as the manager pondered over a move for the talented Swede, Benfica have rushed to get the signature of the player.

The 17 year old went on trials all over Europe to various clubs in Bundeliga and Eredivise before visiting Manchester City earlier this summer. Roberto Mancini was also believed to have developed a liking for the young star but while others deliberated over a move, Benfica jumped at the chance to sign him. The Premier League duo offered Mirosavic the chance to train with them in the pre season but the player chose regular football with the Portuguese side.

The midfielder has signed a three year contract with Benfica and Helsinborg are set to earn £100k from this deal.
