Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has urged Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric to join him at the Stamford Bridge this summer amidst increasing speculation about the Croat’s impending move to Spain.
The 26 year old has spent 4 years at White Hart Lane and or the second time in as many years is demanding a move away from the club. Chelsea were extremely close to signing him last summer but Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy was adamant in keeping hold of the midfielder. But it is believed that after losing out on the top four finish yet again, the North Londoners are willing to let go of Modric.
Manchester United have already had a bid rejected for the Spurs playmaker and Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be preparing for another bid close to £30m to bring him to Old Trafford. But with Chelsea in the fray, this race could get hotter as Modric has always preferred a move to the Blues.
Speaking to Sportske Novosti, Branislav Ivanovic said, ‘I know there was interest in the transfer window before.’
‘Chelsea as a team have needed a player with these qualities. He would fit in quickly and strengthen the squad. He has been in England a long time and knows about the way football is played on the island and the mentality of the players. He has exceptional quality, and moving to a bigger club is necessary for him to take the next step in his career,’ he added.
‘I think at Chelsea he would adapt instantly and become a better player. He should come to Chelsea – it won’t go wrong!’
It was widely reported earlier this week that Tottenham and Real Madrid have agreed a deal in principle for the transfer of Modric. However, the reports have emerged to be hardly true as it would now be a three horse race to land the highly sought after playmaker.
