Paris Saint Germain are set to rival Premier League champions Manchester City for the signature of want away Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie this summer.
Robin Van Persie enters the final year of his contract and is yet to pen a new deal with the Gunners. Arsenal had offered him a new contract worth £130k per week which he refused before leaving for the Euros. Although Arsene Wenger remains adamant about Van Persie’s commitment towards the club, many believe that the Dutchman could seek a move in search of trophies elsewhere.
PSG, owned by Qatar Investment Authority, have the money to splurge this summer and have been linked to a host of top players already. Carlo Ancelotti is a strong admirer of the Arsenal captain having watched him closely during his managerial stint with Chelsea. The Ligue 1 side are ready to break the bank to beat off competition from City and Serie A giants Juventus to get one of the most dreaded strikers around the world presently.
The North Londoners would be forced to sell him this summer if Van Persie refuses to sign an extension or risk losing him for nothing next year. The officials at the Emirates would demand a fee close to £30m which PSG are willing to match. However, it remains unclear if the 28 year old striker be interested in a move to an inferior European league.
Manchester City could provide an attractive escape route with the English champions willing to pay him in excess of £200k a week, though the player’s father has ruled out such a move completely. City are willing to trim their expenses this summer with expected departures of Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor.
