Spanish club Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will spend another season on loan after reaching an agreement with the Blues.
Courtois was sent on loan to Atletico last season and very soon established himself as the undisputed numero uno between the sticks. Following David De Gea’s departure to Manchester United last summer, the reigning Europa champions needed a goalkeeper and this 20 year old shot stopper proved to be a fine replacement.
Chelsea would persist with the likes of Ross Turnbull and Henrique Hilario as the backups for Petr Cech. The club wants young Courtois, who joined them from Racing Genk in the beginning of last season, to continue his growth at the Vicente Calderon.
‘Thibaut Courtois will next season play at Atletico Madrid after Atletico on Wednesday reached an agreement with Chelsea on transfer for a year,’ a statement on Atletico’s official website read.
‘The Belgian international goalkeeper played all of last season on loan playing in in 37 games in La Liga and 15 in the UEFA Europa League – a competition won in Bucharest on May 9.’
