Chelsea could be forced to give up on their talented young midfielder Oriol Romeu if Barcelona trigger the buy back clause in the player’s contract according to latest reports.
Catalan paper Sport has reported that Barcelona Director of Football Andoni Zubizaretta is contemplating a move for the 20 year old after the possible transfer of Javi Martinez from Athletic Bilbao becomes seemingly impossible for them. Romeu was frequently used by Roberto Di Matteo during the final stages of last season at Chelsea and impressed everybody with his play.
The Catalan giants, who are trying to cut down on their expenses, can re sign the versatile player for a meager sum of €10m. However, if they choose to wait till the end of next season that value would rise to €15m. It is believed that the Blues are particularly interested in keeping Romeu at Stamford Bridge but it may well be down to the player’s former employers to decide where he plays coming season.
Romeu just managed one appearance for Barcelona before making his switch to Chelsea. However, his performances at Chelsea last season and his inclusion in Spain’s Olympics squad has forced Barcelona to consider signing him back.
