Arsenal Suffer Setback In Dzagoev Chase

Russian EURO star Alan Dzagoev has been notified by his owners at CSKA Moscow that he won’t be allowed to leave this summer, despite receiving intense interest from Arsenal.

The 22 year old caught many eyes with his impressive performances during Russia’s Euro misadventure scoring 3 goals in 3 matches. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was reported to be lining up a move for the young star but the Russian club has ruled out the possibility of selling him this summer.

Arsenal forward Andrei Arashavin’s failure to adjust to the English game hasn’t deterred Wenger from developing interest in Dzagoev. Arshavin was expected to join his former employers in Zenit, where he spent the second half of last season on loan, but the deal fell through after the striker’s outlash post Euros.

Dzagoev’s contract with CSKA was expected to expire at the end of this year but the club had talked him into signing an extension prior to the Euros. The club values him at £15m and are determined to keep him till next summer. Tottenham were also reported to be interested in the playmaker and were rumored to have made a £10m bid.
