Chelsea have pulled off another major transfer strike by defeating London rivals Tottenham to the signature of Brazilian wonderkid Oscar.
The Internacional striker shot to prominence with a brilliant hat trick in the U 20 World Cup final in Portugal last summer. The young star has since been followed keenly by top clubs across Europe including Real Madrid but Tottenham were believed to be the frontrunners to land the teen prodigy. However, the European champions have moved quickly to outbid Spurs and foil former Blues boss Andre Villas Boas’ attempt to make his first signing since taking charge at White Hart lane.
Reports in South America are quoting the transfer figure to be around £25m, which could take the Blues’ total spending this summer to a whopping £65m. Chelsea’s Spanish playmaker Juan Mata, who is likely to be rested in the early weeks of the coming season due to his Olympic duties, is likely to face stiff competition from Oscar who is expected to make a deep impact in England next season.
Roman Abramovich has been intent on bringing much needed flair and speed to the side which received strong criticism for playing negative football to win the Champions League. Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Oscar are certain to provide the Stamford Bridge faithful some exciting football to watch.
Chelsea flop.
