Italian giants AC Milan’s president Silvio Berlusconi has claimed that he has sanctioned the sale of his club’s arguably two best players, Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Brazilian center-back Thiago Silva to French moneybags Paris Saint-Germain.
After failing in their attempts to lure Thiago Silva to the French club a few weeks ago, they have succeeded this time in landing the Brazilian international, along with star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as the Ligue 1 outfit intend to have a realistic shot at claiming the elusive UEFA Champions League trophy next season.
The deal for the two stars would cost PSG an estimated €62 million (£49 million). As Milan themselves are undertaking cost-cutting measures, they have let their two big stars leave San Siro.
Milan’s president Berlusconi spoke to the Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport where he admitted, ”Yes, I have sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to PSG,”
“We save €150m over two years.”
With a hefty amount soon to be in Milan’s kitty, it shall be interesting to see whether Milan reinvest the money straight into the squad. If yes, then who will the Italian giants pursue?
