English Minnows To Upset The Mighty Barcelona In Chase For Arsenal Defender ?

It seems like English minnows Brighton have edged Barcelona’s B team in the chase for Arsenal’s young center-back Ignasi Miquel as they have already opened negotiations with the Gunners regarding a loan deal for the defender.

The Spaniard impressed last season for Arsenal, as he featured on nine occasions for the first-team at the age of 19. With a bright future ahead of him, many expect him to soon break into Arsenal’s first-team squad and become a starting 11 regular, though for now he is way down the pecking order behind the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

With the path for the first-team blocked heavily, Arsenal feel that its in Miquel and Arsenal’s best interest that a loan deal is arranged for the teenager which will provide him the opportunity to earn some valuable playing time.

Barcelona, the club whose academy he passed out from, wish to bring him back to Spain for a second stint too, however they might have to return empty handed as Arsenal and Brighton are already in advanced talks regarding the loan deal.

Will this loan deal benefit Brighton, Arsenal, and most importantly, Miquel himself?
