English side Liverpool have returned empty handed in their chase to sign Columbian striker Jackson Martinez, as he has opted to snub the Premier League side and decided to join FC Porto instead.
With Liverpool’s new manager Brendan Rodgers looking to make changes to his squad ahead of the new season, it was reported that the Reds were interested in Martinez, as they intend to boost their attacking strength and try to finish higher than their eighth spot finish last season.
However, Liverpool will have to continue their search for a striker as their prime target Martinez has opted to snub the Merseyside outfit in favor of joining Porto, which was infact the former club of his international team-mate Radamel Falcao. Martinez has followed Falcao’s footsteps and joined the Portuguese giants from Mexican club Jaguares de Chiapas for a deal thought to be around £7 million.
Liverpool’s English club Chelsea could possibly be rejoicing at this transfer, as this paves the way for Porto’s star striker Hulk to join the Blues.
