Manchester United center back and captain Nemanja Vidic gave Sir Alex Ferguson a major boost ahead of the pre-season tour as he joined training for the first time since December.
The big Serbian damaged his anterior cruciate ligaments in a Champions League fixture against FC Basel back in December last year and subsequently was ruled out for the remainder of the season. The 30 year old was sorely missed by his team last season as Manchester City fought off stiff competition from the Red Devils to clinch the Premier League title. Ferguson had cited Vidic’s absence as one of the reasons why United eventually lost out on the greatest title contest for the Premiership.
However, Vidic seems to be in line to return for the start of next season as he joined training with United’s new recruit Shinji Kagawa along with Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov. Kagawa became United’s first signing of the summer when he joined them from Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund for a reported fee of £17m. Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted that Kagawa could be a very potent weapon for United as he attempts to wrestle back the title from city rivals.
Meanwhile, Berbatov’s future remains shrouded with doubts after Ferguson insisted that the player wouldn’t be let go of until clubs meet the asking price of £10m. PSG and Malaga are both believed to be assessing the situation and could make a move for the Bulgarian striker sooner than later.
