Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is set to test Fulham’s resolve by putting in a £5m bid for their American midfielder Clint Dempsey.
The Reds made their first signing of the summer last week when Roma striker Fabio Borini completed his impending move to Anfield. Now Rodgers is considering making the move for the 29 year old Fulham star who had a tremendous last season scoring 23 goals for the Cottagers.
Dempsey was linked to their city rivals Arsenal earlier this year but the Gunners cooled off their interest in the prolific midfielder most likely due to his age. However, the officials at Anfield are convinced about the impact Dempsey would have had at the club given his experience in the Premier League and recent form in front of goal.
Fulham manager Martin Jol is desperate to keep hold of the American but with just a year to go in his current contract, the club might be forced to cash in on the player. With the departure of Andy Carroll imminent, Liverpool could start the season with a new look strike force comprising of Luis Suarez, Fabio Borini and Clint Dempsey.
