Chelsea are yet to make any official contact with Porto for the transfer of defender Alvaro Pereira according to the player’s agent.
The 26 year old has returned to the Estadio do Dragao for the pre season training and remains committed to the Primeira Liga champions. The Uruguayan international had earlier insisted that he wishes to stay in at Porto and denied having been contacted by the Blues.
The versatile South American who can also play in midfield had been touted as a possible successor to Jose Bosingwa after he was released from Stamfod Bridge this summer. However, Porto aren’t willing to let the player leave unless the clubs interested are willing to buy him out of his contract for £25m. Chelsea, who reportedly have already had a bid of £20m rejected by Porto, aren’t willing to meet the contract termination fee of the player.
The player’s agent Alejandro Savich insists that the player isn’t thinking of quitting Porto and any decision regarding the player’s future would be taken by the club. He however, denied having been contacted by the Londoners for Pereira.
“His contract is with Porto and he will stay there unless there is a proposal that is acceptable to the club,” he said. “So far there is nothing at all.”
