Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain has put pen to paper a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu putting an end to Chelsea’s chances of signing him this summer.
The 24 year old was linked with a move to Chelsea last summer as well when Andre Villas Boas took charge at Stamford Bridge. Higuain who missed the majority of the 2010-11 season after he was diagnosed with herniated lumbar disc and eventually operated upon. ‘El Pipita’ made a strong comeback last season scoring 26 goals in all comeptitions for Real Madrid and setting up 10 for his team mates.
Higuain had to fight for his place in the Real starting line up throughout last season with Frenchman Karim Benzema in spectacular form as well for the La Liga champions. Despite heavy competition, Higuain has finally signed an extension which will see him earn €4.5m per year as opposed to €3.5m.
Chelsea are still looking for a replacement for the talismanic Didier Drogba and South American striker was considered by many at Stamford Bridge as the ideal one.
