Wenger Due To Bid For Llorente?

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to bring in Spanish striker Fernando Llorente as a replacement for their rebel captain Robin Van Persie according to reports.

Van Persie, 28, seems all set to leave the Gunners this summer after the club officials failed to convince the Dutchman of their ambitions in terms of winning silverware. Van Persie had a phenomenal last season ending the season as the top scorer in England and has since been on the wishlist of plenty of clubs across Europe. The Manchester duo of United and City are readying offers close to £20m for the frontman and Wenger has decided to cash in on him.

Le Professor wants to have enough time to bring in a replacement for Van Persie and realizes that this transfer saga is doing the club more harm than good. The manager apparently, has given up all hopes of persuading the striker to stay and is now exploring options to replace him. Bilbao star Fernando Llorente, who also had a brilliant season for his club last term, is once being linked tom the Emirates.

Llorente scored 28 goals for Bilbao last season including a spectacular volley against United in the Europa League. He was also an unused member of the Spanish squad which recently lifted the Euros again. However, the player has a hefty buy out clause in his contract and it is unlikely if the La Liga side will be settling for anything less than £28m.
