Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he wishes to keep star striker Robin van Persie at the club for the upcoming season, despite the fact that the attacker has decided not to renew his existing contract which is due next season.
After ending last season as English Premier League’s top scorer and also picking up other personal accolades along the way, the stock price of Dutchman Robin van Persie soared up as top clubs sat up and took notice.
The clubs most interested in the 28-year old were Manchester City, Manchester United and Italian champions Juventus. The trio were given a fresh lease of hope as the striker announced that he will not be renewing his current contract with the Gunners, which expires next year. With many expecting Arsenal to sell van Persie when they can, manager Wenger has revealed his wish, which is to keep him at the Emirates Stadium. Speaking to Arsenal Player, the Frenchman said, ”For me, Van Persie is one of the best strikers in the world, if not the best, and my desire is to keep him at the club,”
“As for the rest I will do what is in the best interests of Arsenal Football Club. That, at the moment, is where we are. There is not a lot more to say than that.”
Can we have another vanpersie?
