As one of the summer’s top transfer stories was set to be concluded, we have an anti-climax of sorts as Brazilian wonderkid Lucas Moura’s agent has dropped a bombshell at Old Trafford by publicly stating that the deal is officially off.
English giants Manchester United were set to seal the deal on Lucas after chasing him for nearly the entire summer, as manager Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to add a marquee signing this summer, and had earmarked Lucas as the perfect candidate to lead his midfield attack next season alongside new recruit, Japanese Shinji Kagawa.
Lucas’ club back in Brazil, Sao Paulo had made it clear that they would only consider selling their prized asset if a bumper offer came their way as they were looking at a fees in the region of above £30 million. The Red Devils made an official bid which did not meet Sao Paulo’s valuation, and was hence rejected as the Brazilian outfit were holding out for more.
With United reconsidering spending that huge amount on a 19-year old, Lucas’ agent Wagner Ribeiro believes that United’s second thoughts have cost him the midfield superstar. Speaking to UOL, Ribeiro said, ”They have reached their limit,”
Lucas Moura won’t leave. He is happy at Sao Paulo. We have to forget this subject. There is no possibility he leaves now.
Manchester United made an offer, which was rejected and they won’t make another one as they have reached their limit.”
