Latest reports emerging from Italy suggest that Italian side Roma have jumped in the front of the long queue for the signature of Benfica’s Axel Witsel, who is being closely monitored by the English duo of Chelsea and Manchester United.
The 23-year old had a stellar last season for the Portugese outfit, guiding them to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League where his side fell short against eventual champions Chelsea.
The combative midfielder has been garnering positive reviews for his performances from several top clubs apart from the English duo. Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport are now reporting that Roma have taken an interest in the Belgian international as they look to boost their midfield area.
After cooling their interest in Danish sensation Christian Eriksen, who is coincidentally also a target for Manchester United, Roma have now turned their attention onto Witsel, and sources suggest that the Serie A side are preparing a bid thought to be in the region of £16.3 million.
Will Roma succeed in luring Witsel to Italy?
