Turkish side Besiktas’s manager has played down rumors suggesting that his club are interested in bringing Arsenal’s out-of-favor striker Marouane Chamakh, amidst growing uncertainty circling the Moroccan striker.
The 28-year old frontman had a glowing start to his career at Arsenal since joining from French club Bordeaux two years ago. But since then, his form, his stock price along with his involvement in Arsenal’s squad has been declining rapidly.
He spent majority of last season on the bench for the Gunners, which some can argue was out of his hands as the man replacing him was Arsenal’s captain Robin van Persie who himself had the best season of his career. However, with the striker set to spend further time on the bench, given Arsenal’s new signings, the duo of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, many believe that Chamakh’s time is up at the Emirates Stadium.
The Morocco international has been linked with quite a few clubs, Besiktas being the latest. However, the club’s manager Samet Aybaba has distanced his club from such speculation as he told Goal.com, “We needed a defender like Escude and I think our defence will be stronger with him. We’re not attempting to sign Marouane Chamakh.”
With Besiktas ruling themselves out of contention, where will the hapless Chamakh be next season?
