Serie A champions Juventus have stepped down from the pursuit of Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie as the Turin club are not willing to match the Gunners’ astronomical demands.
Van Persie has been followed by Manchester clubs and Juventus for a long time now although the Gunners’ remain adamant on holding onto their star player. The 28 year old who plundered 37 goals last term in the Premier League has been one of the primary targets for Juventus as they aim to strengthen their squad to mount a serious challenge in European competition next season. However, after weeks of pursuit they have chosen to withdraw their interest in him.
Juventus Director Giuseppe Marrotta told Sky that he feels that the demands of Arsenal are unjustified and would prove to be bad business for them.
“A top player is not only judged by how much he costs,” said Marotta.
“It can also mean a player who costs less but on the pitch shows an absolute value.
“Van Persie is a great player but Arsenal do not intend to lose him. And you cannot indulge in a player if the owners don’t want (to sell).
“Talk of our real interest in him seems excessive to me.”
