Wenger Confirms Delayed Wilshere Return

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger expects young midfielder Jack Wilshere to be back by October contrary to earlier reports where he was set to start the season.

The 20 year old suffered a stress fracture in ankle during a pre-season friendly against the New York Red Bulls last summer and subsequently ruled out for close to five months. However, a recurrence of that problem back in January this year forced him out for the remainder of the season. The player underwent a surgery in May to correct a minor problem which evidently ruled him out English of the Euros.

Wenger hinted that it would take Wilshere till October to be fit but sounded excited at the prospect of having Abou Diaby back for the first team. The French midfielder played his part in the pre season tour and has impressed the manager to a great extent.

“Hopefully, we will get Wilshere back playing for October,” said Wenger.

“With Abou Diaby returning, it will be like signing two new players. This season, the squad will be strong and competitive.”

Wilshere’s deferred return date would mean that he is now set to miss England’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine scheduled for September.
