According to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, new recruits Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud would be gradually eased into the side as he expects them to take time to adjust to the Premier League.
The new signings were left behind at home for Arsenal’s pre season tour of Asia but are expected to play some role in their final preparatory match against Podolski’s former club Cologne FC on August 12. Both of them took part in the Euros for their respective nations and have been advised an extended summer vacation by the Frenchman.
With Abou Diaby finally returning to action and impressing with his fine performances during the pre season, Wenger is optimistic that his side would be significantly boosted in the midfield department. However with young Englishman Jack Wilshere still out injured until October, Wenger is not willing to risk any further injuries by rushing his new signings.
“Podolski and Giroud may take longer than expected,” Wenger said in the Daily Mail before returning back home after playing their final pre season game against Kitchee FC.
“I cannot play them in pre-season, so I will ease them in the Premier League.”
