Bologna supporters protest against potential Ramirez sale to Southampton

Disillusioned Bologna supporters have voiced their discontent over the potential sale of star player Gaston Ramirez to Southampton.

A chorus of chants was unleashed from the terraces of the club’s Stadio Renato Dall’Ara during Bologna’s match against Varese in Saturday’s third round Coppa Italia tie, as fans repeatedly called for their in-demand Uruguayan starlet to not be released this summer.

Ramirez, himself, was dropped from the squad for the match, further fuelling speculation that he may be about to move.

The 21-year-old, formerly a €2.5 million signing from Penerol in 2010, has repeatedly been linked to the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham, in addition to Italian heavyweights Inter and Juventus.

It appears, however, that newly promoted Premier League outfit Southampton have stolen into the lead for the attacking midfielder’s signature with a €15 million (£11.8m) bid, something the player himself has alluded to.

Nevertheless, the situation is up in the air again, following Bologna president Albano Guaraldi slamming talk of a deal being imminent, as he has claimed that there is still some way to go before any agreement can be brokered.
