Olympique Marseille coach Elie Baup has commended Cesar Azpilicueta for his concentration on the pitch, despite an imminent move to Chelsea.
Representatives of the Spaniard were in London on Friday to finalise the details of a €10m transfer to Stamford Bridge, but the right-back still turned out for his current club in the 2-0 win over Sochaux on Saturday.
The OM trainer revealed his pleasure at the professionalism of the right-back and credited him with coping with the situation extremely well.
“I shot him a nod because it is not easy in his situation which is open and everyone is talking about,” Baup said on the club’s official website.
“He has started two highlevel games, this is a great professional. I see players from other clubs in the same situation and they do not always have the same behaviour.”
Azpilicueta is expected to complete his transfer to Chelsea early in the coming week and will join compatriot Juan Mata in West London.
