Other clubs have enquired about Samba, reveals QPR boss Redknapp

The Rs’ manager believes he has not taken a financial risk by signing the €15 million defender from Anzhi, insisting he can sell him on for more than that amount

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has dismissed suggestions that his signing of Chris Samba is a financial risk.

The 65-year-old believes that the club can sell the defender for more than the €15 million they paid if they fail to maintain their top-flight status.

Redknapp even admitted that he has already received at least one enquiry about the 28-year-old centre-back.

“I had a chairman ring me a week ago asking me about him”, he told reporters.

“He said ‘What would you do if you went down?’ and I told him we’re not going to go down. He said ‘What a signing – if [only] we’d known he was available.’

“I’m talking about a big club. There will be big clubs wanting him, not a danger.”

The former Blackburn Rovers and Hertha Berlin defender signed for QPR from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala after spending 11 months in the Russian league.

QPR sit bottom of the Premier League and are six points away from safety ahead of Saturday’s visit to Swansea.
