Gonalons could move to Napoli in January, says agent

The 24-year-old’s representative held talks with the Italians over the summer only for a move to stall, but has hinted that a winter switch could be on the cards

Maxime Gonalons’ agent has intimated the Olympique Lyonnais midfielder could move to Napoli in January, after talks in the previous transfer window.

Napoli were linked with a move for the France international in the close-season, but failed to secure a deal for his services as Rafa Benitez set about rebuilding the squad at Stadio San Paolo.

The 24-year-old’s representative confirmed talks did take place with the Serie A club and believes his client could yet move to the club in January should Benitez’s side return with a suitable offer.

“I met with [Napoli sporting director Ricardo] Bigon twice over the summer,” agent Frederic Guerra told Radio CRC.

“But since then I have had no news about it. I do not know.

“Maybe Napoli are still looking for a player with his characteristics in January.

“A transfer can be done, but Napoli have to accept the demands of Lyon and the player.”

A product of Lyon’s academy, Gonalons has made more than 160 appearances in his time at Stade Gerland.

The midfielder was also linked with Arsenal and Monaco before committing himself to Lyon for the 2013-14 season.
