The Argentine defender is eager to move on and is not scared with the prospect of replacing the Portuguese international
Rubin Kazan defender Cristian Ansaldi has declared that he feels prepared to step into the shoes of Benfica’s Fabio Coentrao.
The Argentina international has been suggested by the Portuguese media as one of the players Benfica have lined up in case Coentrao leaves the club for Real Madrid in the summer.
Ansaldi has been at Rubin Kazan since joining the club from Newell’s Old Boys in 2008 for €3.6 million and is looking for a move in order to further his career.
The 24-year-old admitted he is aware of Benfica’s interest, and was full of praise for the Portuguese club.
“I want to leave Rubin, I have said it several times. Of course I would like to go to Benfica, it would be a great solution for my career,” Ansaldi told news daily Record.
“Benfica are a great club, used to winning titles, who are usually in the main European competitions, like the Champions League.
“I know Benfica are a possibility and we will see what happens.”
Despite being targeted as a substitute for Coentrao, who is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the world, Ansaldi said he is suited for the job: “I feel ready to replace Coentrao.”
