Messi wants to stay at Barca, says father

The Argentine refused to commit his future to the Catalan club on Tuesday but Jorge Messi insists that he is happy at Camp Nou

Lionel Messi’s father and agent Jorge has insisted that his son wants to remain at Barcelona, despite rumours of an exit.

The 27-year-old refused to commit his future to the club on Tuesday, saying that his intention was to stay at Camp Nou but adding that his career may not pan out like that.

However, his representative has reaffirmed his dedication to the club, saying that his son’s comments have been exaggerated.

“There is nothing in it,” he is quoted as saying by La Vanguardia.

“The thought is to stay here but what people are reading between the lines is exaggerated.

“Messi is happy. It’s obvious that if the club gets an offer and say: ‘We want to sell you’, he will have to study it.

“Today, there are no thoughts of leaving Barcelona.”

Barcelona’s next match is a home clash with Sevilla on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 CET.
