Messi's father plays down Barcelona exit talk

The Argentine superstar refused to commit his future to the Blaugrana on Tuesday but Jorge Messi has insisted publicly that his son is happy in Catalunya

Lionel Messi’s father and agent Jorge has played down talk that his son could be set to quit Barcelona.

The 27-year-old refused to commit his future to the club on Tuesday, saying that his intention was to stay at Camp Nou but adding that his career may not pan out like that.

Goal understands that Messi is indeed considering leaving the Blaugrana at the end of the current campaign and that he already contemplated departing last term.

However, his representative has insisted publicly that Messi is happy in Catalunya.

“There is nothing in it,” Jorge is quoted as saying by La Vanguardia.

“The thought is to stay here but what people are reading between the lines is exaggerated.

“Messi is happy. It’s obvious that if the club gets an offer and say: ‘We want to sell you’, he will have to study it.

“Today, there are no thoughts of leaving Barcelona.”

Barcelona’s next match is a home clash with Sevilla on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 CET.
