The Bundesliga club have stated they have no intention of selling the midfielder following rumours of Luis Enrique’s interest
Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Michael Schade says Barcelona have not made an approach for Germany international Lars Bender.
The Catalans – who still await the outcome of their appeal against their transfer ban – have scouted the midfielder on a number of occasions in the past 18 months and Luis Enrique is reportedly an admirer of the 25-year-old.
Nevertheless, Schade has insisted that there has not been any contact with Barca and maintains the Bundesliga side have no intention of selling.
“No Barcelona representatives have contacted me,” the Leverkusen director told Bild.
“And we have no intentions of making any changes to our squad at the moment.”
Schade admits, however, he is happy to see Leverkusen’s best players being linked with Europe’s top clubs, with Arsenal also having been linked for the midfielder.
“I would start getting doubts if our players weren’t linked to big clubs,” he admitted. “We’d have done something wrong if that wasn’t the case.”
Bender has a contract with Leverkusen until June 2019.
