Liverpool have cancelled a meeting with Raheem Sterling and his representative, Aidy Ward, after the agent’s recent comments over his client’s future at Anfield.

The 20-year-old has so far stalled on talks over an extension and was due to meet with club officials on Friday, where he was expected to firmly state his desire to leave this summer.

But Ward’s public claims that there are no circumstances under which Sterling would remain on Merseyside, even if he were offered €1 million a week, have forced the Reds to cancel their proposed meeting.

The forward’s agent made strongly worded comments about his disregard for the club’s interests as he seeks to give his client Champions League football next season, adamant that “every Premier League club will make a bid”.

Ward also rebuked those criticising Sterling for wanting to move on, calling Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher “a k***”.
