Ferdinand and Barton among six released by QPR

Shaun Wright-Phillips, Bobby Zamora and Richard Dunne will also leave Loftus Road though Clint Hill and Alejandro Faurlin have been offered new deals

Rio Ferdinand and Joey Barton have been named among six players to be released by QPR following their relegation from the Premier League.

The duo join Shaun Wright-Phillips, Bobby Zamora, Richard Dunne and Brian Murphy in leaving Loftus Road at the end of their contracts.

Karl Henry could also depart, though he has until June 30 to decide whether to exercise his option of a further 12 months at the club.

Having signed from Manchester United, Ferdinand made just 11 league appearances for the Rs, though the death of his wife Rebecca in early May meant his availability was limited towards the end of the campaign.

Barton, meanwhile, leaves the club after four years with the London outfit while Zamora, who scored the play-off winning goal against Derby County that secured promotion to the Premier League in 2014, leaves having scored three league goals in 31 appearances this season.

Clint Hill and Alejandro Faurlin have been offered new deals by the club as they look to rebuild following Chris Ramsey’s installation as permanent manager.
