The Betis coach is convinced the 18-year-old will still be at the club at the start of the season
Real Betis coach Pepe Mel says Dani Ceballos is more worried about getting his driving license than joining Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2015-16 season and has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu in recent weeks.
Ceballos played a key role in Spain’s Under-19 European Championship success this summer and Madrid are reportedly willing to buy the midfielder and loan him straight back to Betis.
However, Mel has poured cold water on that speculation and is convinced he will still be at the club at the start of the season.
“I’m taking it as a fact that Dani will be here for the league game against Villarreal [on August 23],” Mel said.
“He’s a cocky lad and he won’t be affected by everything that’s going on. He’s more worried about getting his driving licence.”
Ceballos helped Betis secure promotion to Spain’s top flight last season, scoring five goals in 33 league appearances.
