Kevin De Bruyne will train with Wolfsburg this afternoon despite reports claiming he was set to fly to England on Tuesday to finalise a move to Manchester City, the German club have revealed.
The Belgian playmaker is City’s top remaining summer target and last week Goal reported that the Premier League pace-setters are prepared to smash their transfer record to land him before the close of the transfer window.
Several reports in England claimed that De Bruyne would fly to Manchester on Tuesday to finalise the terms of a transfer worth as much as £50 million, but Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking has confirmed that his prized asset will take part in an afternoon session with his team-mates at Wolfsburg’s Aller Park training complex.
“Kevin De Bruyne will train with us this afternoon,” Hecking told reporters.
De Bruyne joined Wolfsburg in January 2014 having failed to establish himself in the Chelsea first team under Jose Mourinho but has since blossomed into one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe, notching 10 goals and 20 assists in the Bundesliga last season.
Earlier this week Bayern Munich handed City a major boost in their pursuit of De Bruyne by confirming that they will make no approach for the Belgian this summer.
