The Blues are interested in the German defender after trying to secure him in the summer and feel like they will ultimately get their man
Niklas Sule remains a €30 million target for Chelsea after they failed in a summer move for the Hoffenheim centre-back and they are expected to return with an offer for him in the coming months.
Chelsea’s bid for the 21-year-old was rejected and the Blues turned their attention towards signing David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain, but contact between all three parties has remained positive, which sees them in pole position, if Hoffenheim decide to sell in January or in summer.
Why did Oscar fall short at Chelsea?
Hoffenheim and Sule would prefer to remain in Germany for the duration of the season as the defender wants to continue his development with his current club, with competition for places so high at Stamford Bridge.
Sule has been scouted heavily by Chelsea and Liverpool have shown their interest. Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Internazionale have scouted him without making contact, while Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are the clubs who are interested from within Germany.
Chelsea’s good form means they are not under pressure to sign a defender, but they want to ensure they are ahead of the pack when Sule ultimately becomes available, while Hoffenheim are competing for a Champions League spot and want to keep him on their books.
The defender is under contract until 2019 and has recently made his debut for his country.
